Child Eye Care

Proper child eye care is very important to ensure that children learns to use and take care of their eyes properly. While proper care does not guarantees one to have perfect vision, it can at least help reduces many cases of unwarranted eye problems or injuries.

The following are some tips for your child's eye care :

  • Don't read in a dim area. Ensure that the reading area is appropriately lighted
  • Preferably use a flicker-free reading lamp for reading
  • Supervise children when they are handling potentially dangerous glass or pointed items such as pens, pencils and scissors
  • Ensure children do not play with sharp objects which could accidently hit the eye
  • Don't allow children to run with long objects such as pens or pencils which might poke their eyes should they tripped
  • In a moving vehicle, keep away long and sharp objects as it may accidently hit or poke the eye when the driver applies the brakes
  • Parents supervision is needed when children plays with projectile "toys" such as pellet guns, darts, sling-shots or bows and arrows
  • Always wear safety glasses or clear eye protectors while playing sports
  • Do not let your child play with fireworks. Keep away from those who are using them
  • Keep all sprays and chemicals out of reach of small children
  • Avoid spending too much time watching televisyen or staring at tablets or computers screens
  • Try not to let your child rub his/her eyes too hard or too often
  • Send your child for routine eye examinations
  • and last but not least, teach your child to eat spinach and carrots!
