Easy kid craft ideas
Here you will find some easy kid craft ideas that you can make together with your child :
Building blocks from Cardboards or Styrofoam
You will need :
* Styrofoam
* Cardboard or heavy paper
* Pen
* Scissors
* Glass or jar lid
* Ruler
Make a pattern for each of the blocks using the cardboard. Your pattern can be in the shapes
of circles, squares and triangles.
To make a circle, trace around the drinking glass on the cardboard. With the ruler, measure
the width of the circle. Use the circle width as the length for the square and triangle.
Cut out each of the patterns, and trace them onto the styrofoam. Cut out the blocks.
Make a slot on each side of the block (and 4 on the circle). The slot should be just a bit
wider than the thickness of your styrofoam and about 1/4 inch or 1 cm long.
You will need at least 15 blocks to make some interesting structures.
Your kid will enjoy making different structures out of this. Have fun with this easy kid craft.
Rainbow Streamers
You will need :
* Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple crepe paper streamers
* A paper plate for each child
* Scissors
* Stapler
Cut the center out of a paper plate.
Cut long pieces of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple crepe paper streamers.
Each streamer should be about two to three feet long.
Staple a rainbow of streamers onto the paper plate.
You now have a handheld rainbow that you can use while putting on your own parade or while
dancing a jig.
Bubble Art
You will need :
* Tempera paint (about 1-2 tablespoons)
* Liquid dish soap (about + - 1 tablespoon)
* Construction paper (Light colored will work best)
* Drinking straws
* Metal pie pan
* 1/2 cup water
Stir together the water, paint, and soap. Try mixing more than one color. Then, pour the
mixture into a pie pan.
Place one end of the straw into the mixture and gently blow to make bubbles. Blow until
bubbles are almost at the edge of the pie pan.
Place a piece of paper on top of the bubbles and hold it in place until several bubbles have
popped, leaving their mark on the paper.
Set the picture aside to dry.
This easy kid craft can be used to make wall decorations, greeting cards, or cut-out
ornaments.
Wrapping Paper
You will need :
* wax paper
* confetti, dried flowers, glitter, etc...
* iron
Place a piece of wax paper down, sprinkle your confetti or dried flowers, glitter, whatever
you like on the paper. Cover with another piece the same size.
When iron is hot, iron lightly across... The wax melts together, creating a "see-through"
effect wrapping paper.
After you create a sheet of wrapping paper, you could use scissors with a decorative edge to
add some shape to the edges. Or just cut straight with regular scissors.
Potato Printing
You will need :
* A potato
* A paring knife (for adults only)
* Tooth picks
* Paint
* Paper or T-shirt
Cut the potato in half and use a toothpick to etch any shape design into one side of the
freshly cut area. Use a paring knife to cut away the potato that you don't want in the
design.
Dip the cut edge of the potato into the paint and press onto paper or cloth. Repeating the
pattern can create a very effective design. Add your own message and decorate as you wish.
This easy kid craft is fun and can be adapted to any holiday or special event by the design
and message you choose. Use this idea to make pictures, cards or personalize T-shirts.
You can also use different foods such as lemons or limes cut crosswise, or corn-on-the-cob
rolled in paint! Try creating your own shapes out of sponges for another great effect.
